Alsek River
Designated in 1986, the 300 km Alsek flows through Kluane National Park Reserve of Canada, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kluane is bordered by Wrangell-St. Elias National Park in Alaska, the Tatshenshini-Alsek Provincial Park in northern British Columbia, and the Asi Keyi Special Management Area to the north, and forms a key part of the largest contiguous protected area in the world. The Alsek flows through the highest mountains in Canada, fed by the world's largest mountain glaciers. Its upper reaches provide prime habitat for grizzly bear, Dall's sheep and other wildlife. Its wild beauty and rapids beckon adventurous river travelers. Turnback Canyon is renowned as being one of the most daunting stretches of whitewater in the world.
