Délįne Fishery and Fort Franklin NHS

In December 1996, the Minister of Canadian Heritage advised the community of Deline that: "the traditional Dene fishery at Deline, its use over time and the long history of sharing its resources, as well as the remains of Fort Franklin, the wintering quarters of Sir John Franklin’s Second Expedition, are of national historic significance and should be the subject of joint commemoration." Work on the Commemorative Integrity Statement and the Management Plan are proceeding well and should be complete by the spring of 1998. An Elders’ group co-ordinated by Leroy Andre is contributing significantly to the process.
